How long does it take to replace a furnace?
Most straightforward furnace replacements can be completed in a day. The exact time depends on the existing system, venting, gas piping, electrical work, ductwork and whether modifications are needed. Elite will evaluate the existing installation before the work begins so you’ll know what to expect.
Should I replace my furnace and air conditioner at the same time?
Not necessarily. If both systems are older, replacing them together may make sense, particularly when they share components such as the furnace blower and indoor coil. If your air conditioner is newer and working properly, there may be no reason to replace it simply because the furnace needs replacement. We’ll look at the complete system before making a recommendation.
How do I know what size furnace my home needs?
Should a 20- or 25-year-old furnace automatically be replaced?
Age is an important consideration, but it isn't the only one. We also look at the furnace's condition, repair history, efficiency and how well it's heating the home. An older furnace that is operating safely and reliably may have useful life remaining, while repeated repairs or significant problems can make replacement the better option.
Are natural gas furnaces being phased out?
No. Natural gas furnaces are not being phased out in New Hampshire. New Hampshire law currently prevents local governments from prohibiting or restricting homeowners from installing safe, commercially available heating systems, including natural gas and propane systems.
Federal efficiency standards for furnaces can change over time, but those are efficiency requirements—not a nationwide ban on gas furnaces. Current federal rules call for higher efficiency requirements for certain residential gas furnaces beginning in December 2028.
What should I consider when choosing a new furnace?
Efficiency matters, but it isn't the only consideration. Proper sizing, airflow, ductwork, equipment quality, controls and how the furnace works with the rest of the home's HVAC system all affect comfort and performance. The goal is to choose the right system for the home rather than simply the largest or highest-efficiency furnace available.
What happens to my old furnace when it is replaced?

Should I replace my gas or propane furnace with a heat pump?
Not necessarily. Gas and propane furnaces remain viable heating options in New Hampshire, but today’s cold-climate heat pumps give homeowners another highly efficient option. Modern heat pumps can provide both heating and air conditioning from the same system while offering excellent energy efficiency and reducing the amount of energy needed to heat your home.Unlike older heat pumps, systems designed for cold climates can continue providing efficient, reliable heat even during very cold New Hampshire winter weather.
